Serves: a 9 inch pie
|5 to 6 cups||Apples – Good sweet tart apples such as Granny Smith or MacIntosh|
|1/2 to 2/3 cups||Brown sugar|
|1||pie crust for 9 inch pan|
Peel and core the apples then slice into thin pieces.
Combine the brown sugar, salt, cornstarch, and cinnamon with the apples and stir until the apples are well coated.
Place in layers in the pie crust shell.
Cover with a pricked upper crust. Brush with milk and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Bake in a preheated 450° oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350° and bake for an additional 35 to 50 minutes.
The pie is done when the crust is golden brown.
